On Tuesday, June 3, Caitlin Clark, the Indiana Fever star, had to apologize to the spectators sitting courtside at Gainbridge Fieldhouse following an on-court incident in which she unintentionally threw a giant bouncy ball into the audience.
Despite being sidelined due to a quad injury, Clark was there to cheer for her team during their game against the Washington Mystics. During player introductions, she was seen bouncing a big rubber ball.
She smacked it into the floor, anticipating it to bounce higher, after dribbling it softly a couple times on the hardwood. Rather, the ball slammed into the floor behind one of the baskets without warning.
After realizing her error, the 23-year-old Iowa Hawkeyes graduate hurried to the area, looking for the ball and expressing her sincere regret to the group of spectators who were impacted by the incident.
After learning from her error, she quickly went back to her seat with the bouncy ball in hand and didn’t bounce it again during the game. All eyes will be on the Fever’s training staff and Clark’s scheduled injury status update on Thursday while she awaits medical clearance.
