NBA Punishes LaMelo Ball for His “No Homo” Comment

In a postgame interview, Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball made an abusive and disparaging remark, for which the NBA fined him $100,000. The incident happened following Saturday’s exciting 115-114 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks by Charlotte.

Ball added the contentious comment “no homo” in a hushed tone while talking about teammate Grant Williams’ game-winning defensive play. In a rapid statement denouncing the language, the NBA reaffirmed its commitment to inclusivity and respect within the league by announcing the fine on Sunday.

A controversial year for LaMelo Ball

With an average of 29.6 points, 6.3 assists, and 5.3 rebounds in 12 games this season, Ball has had a remarkable on-court performance. Ball seemed to be in top shape after battling ailments in previous years, leading the Hornets to a strong start despite their 5-7 record.

Ball has displayed moments of genius since being selected with the third overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, but injuries have also made it difficult for him to remain consistent. He played 75 games and received his first All-Star selection in 2021–22, his greatest season to date. However, because of a number of injuries, including an ankle problem that ended his 2023–24 season early, he only played in 58 games over the next two seasons.

The Hornets will try to move past the issue and concentrate on the game as they get ready to play the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday.
