Shaquille O’Neal Reveals Why He Won’t Like His Son Playing in NBA

Shaquille O’Neal’s son Shareef’s bright basketball future faced a significant setback when he was discovered to have a heart condition while in college. Nevertheless, he has been working to establish his path to the NBA through the G League. At 25 years old, Shareef’s opportunities as a young prospect are dwindling, but he continues to seek and discover chances.

Shaquille O’Neal, Shareef’s father, didn’t express much excitement when he heard about his son’s invitation for a tryout with the Sacramento Kings. Instead, Shaq emphasized to Shareef that their family didn’t require anything further from basketball.

Shareef has been collaborating with Shaq in his effort to re-establish Reebok as a talent scout on Power Moves, but their conversation turned personal when Shareef began to share his aspirations in basketball.

Shaquille O’Neal fears his son will get same scrutiny as Bronny James

After spending over thirty years immersed in the sport, Shaq doesn’t feel it’s necessary for his son to follow in his footsteps.

Shaq honestly told his son: “I’ve been around this game since ’89, buddy. I’ve seen it all,”

“You gotta understand that in that life, you know you have to give everything up, right? How many birthday parties did I miss? How many school plays did I miss? How many times did you wake up and not see me?”

“Are you ready to live that life?”“Cause if you wanna be great, my man, you gotta sacrifice everything. I’ve lost a family trying to be great … It’s great at the end because I can help y’all become great, but you’ve gotta make sure this is really what you want.”

“I don’t want [Shareef] to play [in the NBA] because it will be unfortunate for him that they will compare him to me,”

“Similar to what Bronny James is going through right now. Unfair to him, and I don’t really want [Shareef] to go through that.”

Shaq doesn’t particularly want his son to make the same sacrifices he made to achieve success in the NBA.
