Myles Garrett shocked the NFL community on Sunday by changing his mind and opting to extend his contract with the Cleveland Browns, after he had asked for a trade from the mediocre team. A few days after the Las Vegas Raiders gave their star edge rusher Maxx Crosby a three-year extension worth more than $90 million guaranteed, the Hall of Fame-bound defensive end agreed to a four-year extension worth an average of $40 million annually, resetting the market for his position.
Micah Parsons is undoubtedly watching with interest as Crosby and Garrett were given substantial extensions to stay with consistently underperforming teams.
The pressure on the Dallas Cowboys to “firm up” Parsons’ future with the team has increased as a result of these developments, but owner Jerry Jones appears less certain about keeping the All-Pro.
The future of Micah Parsons in Dallas is unclear after Myles Garrett news
Talk over Parsons’ next contract and whether the Cowboys will be paying him is still going on, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz. The market for edge rushers is now set at $40 million annually, and according to Schultz, Parsons, who has been selected to the first team All-Pro twice and has accumulated 52.5 sacks in 63 games during the regular season, might yet be traded out of Dallas.
Sources: For weeks, there have been murmurs about whether the #Cowboys will actually give Micah Parsons a record-breaking contract — or if a trade could become a possibility. It still seems far-fetched, but with the market now at $40M per year, this situation is one to watch. pic.twitter.com/nOzQyeyJ5P

Parsons’ talkative and opinionated style has occasionally caused discomfort for the Cowboys’ leadership. As he begins his “walk” season, tensions around the team’s Frisco, Texas, facility could escalate to a whole new level if Jones does not quickly work out an extension with his best defensive player.
Given that the market has grown to the point that a defensive end is now the NFL’s highest-paid non-quarterback, Parsons, Jones, and the circling rival teams are in for a very intriguing summer.
