Muni Long is clapping back at critics who have slammed her stirring homage to Mariah Carey at this week’s iHeartRadio Music Awards!

As reported here, Carey was on hand at the iHeart Awards (March 17) to accept the Icon Award – an honor that also saw powerhouse songstresses Long and Tori Kelly unite to perform a tribute to the diva.

While Kelly’s take on ‘Always Be My Baby‘ was unanimously praised, Muni’s rendition of ‘We Belong Together‘ seemed to get a more mixed response – with some even suggesting Mariah herself was displeased with the vocal showing after the camera caught her looking away during Long’s time on stage.

Undeterred by the naysayers, the ‘Made for Me‘ singer later made it clear she’s proud of her performance.

“[Mariah] asked me to do it,” Long, 36, said. “You thought I chose to get on TV and sing a Mariah Carey song? You thought that was my choice? Why would I do that? Nobody can sing Mariah’s songs like Mariah. Nobody.”

And while the critics are split on if Muni did ‘Together’ justice, the GRAMMY winner says the only opinion that matters is Mariah’s.

“I did my best, and that’s all I can do,” Long continued before sharing, “She told me I did a great job, she appreciated it. And that’s it.”
