For Michael Jordan, the more than ten-year wait is finally over. After 12 years on the market, the NBA icon eventually sold his $14.8 million estate in the Chicago region, but for a significantly lower closing price of $9.5 million, according to a Bloomberg story on Thursday.
Prior to being cut to little under $15 million, the opulent seven-acre mansion was offered for $29 million in 2012. The news on Thursday follows TMZ’s September story that Jordan had found a buyer. At the time, the listing was deemed “contingent,” which meant that specific requirements had to be fulfilled.
The Wall Street Journal said in the same month that potential purchasers who visited the compound would have to sign a nondisclosure agreement.
Michael Jordan’s iconic home
The opulent home was built in Highland Park, Illinois when Jordan was a player for the Bulls, who he won six NBA titles in the 1990s.
Jordan’s No. 23 jersey number is displayed on the entry gates of the home, which has nine bedrooms and 19 bathrooms. The luxurious property features a tennis court, an infinity pool, multiple car garages, a basketball court, an indoor gym, a library, and a cigar room.
Jordan, a 14-time NBA All-Star, spent his first season with the Bulls from 1984 until 1993. After a brief period of retirement, he returned to Chicago between 1995 and 1998.
Before formally retiring following the 2003 season, Jordan spent the last two seasons of his career with the Wizards. Jordan’s real estate holdings are noteworthy off the court. According to a January article in Architectural Digest, Jordan has a property in Florida as well as condos and a lake house in his home state of North Carolina.
In recent months, Jordan has been abroad, spending the summer in Europe with his wife, Yvette Prieto. Since 2013, they have been married.
