With nearly 200 industry awards (including GRAMMYs), the biggest streaming year yet of any artist in Spotify history, the highest-grossing tour by a Latin artist ever, millions of records sold worldwide, and multiple chart-topping singles and albums to his credit, Bad Bunny – for the aforementioned reasons and others – is easily one of the most successful acts of his generation.
The critical and commercial acclaim attached to his projects have certainly seen him dubbed a music royal by his growing legion of fans, but ‘Forbes‘ magazine raised eyebrows this week when it crowned the 29-year-old the ‘King of Pop.’
Born Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, the Latin superstar acted as the main feature of the magazine’s recently printed ’30 Under 30′ list, which not only highlighted his gargantuan success but also the cool $88 million he earned last year. The whopping sum made him the only solo male musical performer to make the top 10 of ‘Forbes Highest-Paid Entertainers’ list.
On the cover of their latest edition (seen above), Ocasio is described as “El Rey de Pop” (which translates to “King of Pop”).
That title has historically been associated with music legend Michael Jackson, the most successful Pop artist of all time.
Just like last year when ‘Rolling Stone‘ took to press to adorn Harry Styles with the honor, Bad Bunny’s crowning begat backlash.
See highlights below.
As of time reported, Bunny nor ‘Forbes’ have responded to the hoopla.
