Lil Nas X Releases Official ‘J Christ’ Teaser / Reacts to Backlash Over Communion Video & Crucifixion Cover: It is Not “A Mockery of Jesus”

Following the massively controversial ‘Montero’ era of 2021, Lil Nas X spent most of 2022 and 2023 on the quieter side of headlines.

That changed last week when the GRAMMY winner unveiled a peek at the single cover artwork for his “comeback” single ‘J Christ’ – a visual that depicts him being crucified like Jesus Christ.

Inciting an expected backlash, LNX – when not defending his artistic decision – followed with eye-popping teasers that will definitely get people talking.

Ahead of the tune’s official debut on Thursday (January 11), see the “trailer” inside.

After the 24-year-old ruffled feathers for what some believed was ridicule of religious imagery, he took to Twitter to clap back at the critics (as seen above).

“The crazy thing is nowhere in the picture is a mockery of Jesus. Jesus’ image is used throughout history in people’s art all over the world,” he told his 7.8 million followers. “I’m not making fun of shit. Y’all just gotta stop trying to gatekeep a religion that was here before any of us were even born. Stfu.”

To rub even more salt in the diss, LNX unveiled a visual of himself gorging on communion.
