NEW YORK — Brooklyn’s very own Lena Horne will become the first Black woman to have a Broadway theater named after her Tuesday. BLK ALERTS first told you about this story in June.

- She was 92 years old when she died in 2010.
About Lena Horne
Horne was a pioneer who blazed trails across stage and screen for decades. Over and over again, Lena Horne proved to be no stranger to the title “first.”
In 1942, she was the first Black woman to sign a long-term contract with a major film studio. In 1958, she was the first Black woman to be nominated for a Tony Award for Leading Actress in a Musical. She was also the first Black person to join the Screen Actors Guild Board of Directors.
On November 1, she becomes the first Black woman to have a Broadway theatre named after her.
