JJ Watt retaliated after the NFL fined Joe Mixon for something he didn’t say. Following the Houston Texans running back’s $25,000 penalty, the CBS analyst blasted the fine.
After the Texans’ playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs last weekend, Mixon received a punishment from the NFL. He was charged with saying: “Why play the game if every 50/50 call goes with Chiefs. These officials are trash and bias.”
According to Newsbreak, the NFL referenced the comment in its initial letter fining Mixon. However, he had never said the words out.
They were instead from a tweet written on X by former NFL wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh. The league later reissued the fine for Mixon after realizing its mistake.
JJ Watt talks about harsh punishment
Watt took to X to complain about the fine. Watt has been employed by CBS since 2022. Furthermore, he maintained that Mixon ought never to have been disciplined for his initial remarks.
Watt wrote: “This has not received enough attention…[Mixon] got fined for something he didn’t say,”
“[He] Publicly complained about it (correctly). Then got fined for that.
“What are we doing here?”
Mixon himself wrote on on X: “So let me get this straight NFL fines me 25k for something I didn’t even say,” “Call them out for it, and they response was fine me AGAIN for something that’s not even a violation without even rescinding the first one. Where’s the accountability? Just respect the players.”
Peter Schaffer, Mixon’s representative, stated that he will “defend and appeal” the fine. According to Pro Football Talk, they “will explore all other legal avenues to rectify this situation,” he stated.
