According to ESPN, the Seattle Storm are sending three-time All-Star Kelsey Plum to the Los Angeles Sparks in exchange for six-time All-Star Jewell Loyd to the Las Vegas Aces in a multi-team trade.
In return, the Sparks will give the Storm reserve center Li Yueru and the No. 2 selection in the 2025 draft. According to the rumor, the Storm will select the Sparks with the ninth pick, and the Sparks will select the Aces with the thirteenth pick.
After playing in Seattle for her first ten seasons in the WNBA, Loyd, 31, now joins the Aces.
Loyd, a former Rookie of the Year, has been selected to the All-Star team six times in the last seven seasons and four times in the last four. She joins an Aces squad that fell to the eventual champion New York Liberty in the playoffs of the previous season, despite winning back-to-back WNBA titles in 2022 and 2023.
6-Time All-Star Jewell Loyd Was Acquired by the Aces From Storm in a Multi-Team Trade, Which Sent Kelsey Plum to Sparks
In exchange, the Aces get Loyd, a two-way player, as they retool in hopes of contending for the championship again. Last season, Loyd averaged 19.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.6 assists. Plum, 30, made the All-Star team each of the previous three seasons and was a vital member of the Aces’ championship teams.
She has played with the Aces for all seven of her WNBA seasons, including the 2017 season, which was their final season as the San Antonio Stars before they moved. Last season, she averaged 17.8 points, 4.2 assists, and 2.6 rebounds.
Plum joins the Sparks, a rebuilding squad that had second-year forward Cameron Brink and finished last in the WNBA the previous season. At last summer’s Olympics in Paris, Loyd and Plum were both members of Team USA, which won a gold medal.
The Storm lost to the Aces in the opening round of the previous season’s playoffs, earning them the No. 5 seed. Loyd’s trade to obtain the No. 2 pick portends a Seattle rebuild.
