Janet Jackson Issues Apology for Saying Kamala Harris Is “Not Black” & Says Statement Was “Based on Misinformation”

Pop Queen Janet Jackson caused a royal firestorm of controversy on Saturday (September 21) when explosive quotes from her interview with ‘The Guardian‘ about Presidential candidate Kamala Harris hit the press.

And while the chat was filled with tongue-wagging mentions about the 2004 Super Bowl, her shelved ‘Black Diamond‘ album, and more, it was Jackson’s commentary about the 2024 Presidential election that dominated headlines – namely her statements about Harris’ race.

Look inside to see how she’s responding to the hoopla that sent social media into flames over the weekend.

As reported here, Jackson’s chat with ‘The Guardian’ saw her weigh in on what she believes the outcome of the 2024 Presidential election is.

I think either way it goes is going to be mayhem,” she said. “We’ll have to see.”

When quizzed on if she thought America was ready for a female President of color, Janet gave a surprising answer.

“Well, you know what they supposedly said? She’s not Black. That’s what I heard. That she’s Indian,” she told The Guardian before later expressing, “Her father’s white. That’s what I was told. I mean, I haven’t watched the news in a few days. I was told they discovered her father was white.”

Harris has been very vocal about her racial identity over the years, clarifying on multiple occasions that she is of Black and Indian heritage.

Once the Jackson quotes caught fire across the Web, however, reps from the 58-year-old diva’s camp quickly sought to put out the flames.

“She deeply respects Vice President Kamala Harris and her accomplishments as a Black and Indian woman. Janet apologizes for any confusion caused and acknowledges the importance of accurate representation in public discourse,” her manager Mo Elmasri told Buzzfeed. “We appreciate the opportunity to address this and will remain committed to promoting unity.”

At the time of this report Janet nor Kamala has spoken out directly about the backlash.
