Chris Brown may already sit in RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) record books for being the most Gold, Platinum, and multi-Platinum-decorated male vocalist in the organization’s 72-year history, but this week brought news he’s one step closer to being the most Diamond-decorated male singer as well.
Taking to press on Brown’s birthday (May 5), the RIAA revealed his 2011 hit ‘Look at Me Now‘ was certified Diamond. For context, the measure denotes sales of 10 million in the United States.
Featuring Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes, the Diplo-produced bop peaked at #6 on the Hot 100 at the height of its popularity and remains a fan favorite in Breezy’s prized discography.
Marking the second song of his career to be crowned as high, the certification of ‘Look’ comes just 6 months after Brown’s Drake-assisted 2019 hit ‘No Guidance’ was elevated to similar status.
Thanks to ‘Guidance’ and ‘Look,’ Chris is now only the fifth Black male vocalist in RIAA history to have at least 2 Diamond singles – placing him in an exclusive club led by The Weeknd (7), Khalid (2), Kane Brown (2), and King of Pop Michael Jackson (2).
The certification update pushes Brown’s cumulative single sales to 117 million in the United States – extending his reign as the best-selling African American singles artist among male vocalists.
