It is understandable why Floyd Mayweather was given the moniker “Money” since, in addition to his skill with his fists, he was also skilled at business, a skill he has honed since hanging up his gloves in 2017.
Since then, Floyd Mayweather has maintained public interest in both his financial acumen and his undefeated record in the ring. Known for earning over $1.2 billion during his athletic career, the former world champion has now amassed a real estate empire valued at about $500 million.
However, a wave of suspicion was triggered by its most recent acquisition, which was a $27 million transaction that came after a larger $402 million agreement to acquire 62 properties in Manhattan.
Floyd Mayweather threatens lawsuit against media for tainting his image
Mayweather responded forcefully to these reports. His daughter first denied the reports as untrue, and then the former boxer publicly addressed the issue in words made in person and on social media.
“I’m still arrogant, I’m still flashy, and I still don’t care what they say”
However, he confronted the rumors head-on in his speech at the Real Deal NYC Forum, which was his most forthright answer.
“Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But if that’s what you call bankruptcy, having two private jets, owning 100 buildings and being able to do what I want, then I’m sure everyone would want to be bankrupt,”
Mayweather also filed a defamation lawsuit against Business Insider, claiming that the publication fabricated a story regarding his financial situation. He said: “I’m not a liar. I’ve worked hard to build my name and I’m not going to let it be tarnished,”
“When I started with real estate, I skipped the eight-figure numbers and went straight to nine figures. I want to make sure that my earnings allow me to travel with my family and build generational wealth”
Mayweather maintains his trust in his approach and ability to profit from his investments and reputation in spite of the criticism.
