Jabrill Peppers, a safety for the New England Patriots, was found not guilty during his trial for assault and battery in Boston on Friday.

Peppers testified in the trial on Thursday and Friday after being charged with assault and battery with a deadly weapon. On the witness stand, he asserted that his accuser had made up her allegations and that “she was trying to do all this to mess up my career.”

At a residence in Braintree, Massachusetts, a lady said that Peppers had seized her, shoved her against a wall, and strangled her. One aspect of Peppers ‘ defense was showing footage from the evening of the event, in which he repeatedly begged her to leave his house.

The degree of the accuser’s injuries was questioned during her cross-examination on Thursday. Additionally, she had sued Peppers in civil court, requesting up to $9.5 million, which Peppers’ lawyer Marc Brofsky reopened. On Friday, the jury’s not guilty judgment was announced.

In a video released by WCVB outside the courthouse, Peppers told reporters: “I had to be quiet for three months,”  “This was all I could think about. This was the first time in my life where football wasn’t the most important thing on my mind. I had to just sit through everybody pouring dirt on my name. Everybody, for the most part, actually thinking that I did these things. But, to me, crimes against children and women are the most egregious things that you could do. And to be accused of that, it just hurt.”

Ahead of the domestic abuse trial, Peppers entered a guilty plea to cocaine possession on Thursday. If he stays out of trouble for the next four months, the charge that was “continued without finding” will be dropped, according to the Boston Globe.

Peppers, 29, was on the commissioner’s exempt list and missed seven games in 2024. After his return in December, he participated in two games before being sidelined by several injuries.
