Much to the dismay of #Swifties aka Taylor Swift fans (as Twitter has proven over the last week), Billboard has officially crowned Beyonce the greatest pop star of the 21st century – reaffirmation of the title she was unofficially bestowed by the music Bible just two years ago.

Speculation on who would be afforded the winning title has been mounting since Katy Perry was revealed at the #25 pick at the list’s launch in August.

Since then, superstars like Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Drake, Kanye West, JAY-Z, Usher, Justin Timberlake, and more have fallen in line (more than not in positions that launched debates among their respective fans).

Nevertheless, Tuesday (December 3) brought with it the official announcement that Queen Bey is the countdown’s reigning monarch.

The news comes a week after Swift was announced the runner-up, sending some of her fans into a meltdown across social media – a circumstance only exacerbated by Billboard’s use of a peculiar photo from the music video of her nemesis Kanye West.

They later issued an apology for the infraction.

Further leaning in on the Swift vs Beyonce discourse, Billboard wrote:

“If you go by the sheer numbers, Taylor would easily top this list — and she will undoubtedly reign on many of the chart-based quarter-century rankings we’ll publish in 2025.

But when you’re talking about greatness, and when you’re talking about greatness for the 21st century specifically, no one has a longer or fuller track record than Beyoncé.”
