Rihanna’s Musical Director on Super Bowl: “It’s Going to Be Unlike Anything You’ve Ever Seen Before”

Rihanna‘s headlining performance at the Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show is already one of 2023’s most hotly eagerly awaited spectacles.

Beyond being a superstar of seismic proportions, the Bajan belle has been notable in her absence from the musical spotlight while building her billion-dollar Fenty empire and becoming a mother.

As such, the anticipation is all sorts of palpable on multiple fronts.

With the countdown to the February 12 State Farm Stadium officially on, fresh details are emerging about what folk can look forward to from RiRi.

When quizzed by Rolling Stone about the process of working with Rih and what viewers can expect, Halftime’s musical director Adam Blackstone said:

“It’s been cool. We’re spearheaded by the team at Roc Nation, Willow, incredible choreographer and creative director Parris Goebel, and my partner on this is Omar Edwards as the co-musical director. So it’s been really cool, man. The thing about Rihanna is that she’s so creative. She is boundary-pushing at all times, so it’s going to be unlike anything you’ve ever seen before, and we always try to push the envelope with her.”

Diving into the musical aspect of the 34-year-old’s set, the MD – who himself is a GRAMMY-nominee – added:

“This is her first time coming back as Rihanna, the artist. She knows that her career has expanded different sonic palletes, from EDM to pop to hip-hop to ballads, so we want to try to give a little bit to everybody.”

Exciting times!
