Eric Cobb, a Former Basketball Star for UCONN, Was Accused of Killing His Mother

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (Fla.) reports that Eric Cobb, a former basketball player for UConn and South Carolina, has been arrested on suspicion of killing his mother. The Florida Times-Union was informed.

According to the report, 51-year-old Erika Ellen Winford was discovered in their backyard, wrapped in blankets and towels, suffering from “multiple gunshot wounds to her head, stomach, and left leg.”

When police came, they discovered 28-year-old Cobb alone inside the house and took him up for interrogation. According to the report, in addition to the blood, the officers discovered “multiple apparent bullet defects” in the floor of the main corridor.

The corridor appeared to have been cleaned in some places as well.

According to the report, police found a “soft case” in front of Cobb’s bed that included an AR-style rifle, a Smith & Wesson 9mm semiautomatic handgun, live ammunition, and 9mm rounds.

There were fourteen “spent” 9mm round casings in a curbside garbage can outside. When Winford’s male friend arrived at the house to check on her after she failed to answer her phone, police were contacted Tuesday morning.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the friend then discovered what seemed to be a body inside a blanket along with a “large amount” of blood. He shared the information with another acquaintance.

Since Cobb was home, the buddy who had spent Sunday with Winford saw that she “looked apprehensive” before leaving his car.
