LeBron James might never forgive you, Dwyane Wade joked, if you tamper with his chocolate chip cookies. When Wade appeared on Lou Williams’s podcast, The Underground Lounge, he shared a fascinating story regarding James’s final days with the Miami Heat.
Wade claimed that after team president Pat Riley overreached himself and tampered with James’ favorite dessert, he first had a sneaking suspicion that James might depart the Heat. Wade stated throughout the show, causing the audience to erupt in laughter:
“One thing you don’t do is f— with LeBron’s cookies,”
“No, no, no, this is serious. He loves chocolate chip cookies. Chocolate chip cookies and ice cream, he loves. LeBron walks on the plane with a bag of food. One bag is all cookies and the other bags are what his chef has prepared for him to eat.”
D Wade says the first moment he thought LeBron might leave MIA is when Pat Riley took his cookies
“One thing you don’t do, is f*ck with LeBrons cookies… 4 finals in a row. You don’t need to micro manage us, I felt Riley went too far with his micro managing”

James had to sate his sweet hunger while he and Wade played card games with their former Heat teammates on team flights.

However, James was told that there were no cookies on the aircraft this time. Wade claimed that James moved back the table and sat through the remainder of the trip with a stoic, dejected expression, which ended the card game.
The Heat had won two titles and advanced to the NBA Finals four times in a row at that point. Wade recognized that James’s manner suggested he didn’t require micromanagement from Riley and the organization.
Wade went on: “It was too much micromanaging at that point,”
“You’re talking about a team who went to four Finals in a row, you don’t need to micromanage us. And I felt that [Riley] went a little too far with his micromanaging at points like that. He’s a grown man, you don’t take the cookies away from us. … You got the s— that gets you through. When I get on this plane, I want this because this is what gets me through. Because now I’m about to fly to this city, not get in until 3 a.m., the food on the plane I really don’t want to eat, I can’t eat when I get in, I got to get up in the morning and we have to do this again.
“I have to have my comforts along the way or I’m not going to be me. [Riley] takes all them comforts away when he’s hot. When [Riley’s] hot, ain’t no comfort.”
James disclosed in a first-person essay on Sports Illustrated that he had rejoined the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2014. In 2018, he moved from Cleveland to the Los Angeles Lakers.
