Darius Slay, the incredible cornerback for the Philadelphia Eagles, has been released by the team! And get this, his wife, Jennifer Slay is apparently in ‘real tears’ over the decision.
I mean, let’s be real here. Darius Slay played a big role in helping the Eagles win the Super Bowl LIX a few weeks ago. And now they just let him go? That’s cold! But you know, it’s all business as it will save the Eagles $4.3 million.
You have to feel for his wife though. Imagine seeing your husband work so hard, give his all to the team, and then they just kick him to the curb. It’s heartbreaking!
Slay’s future is up in the air following the team’s decision to move on from him, although his chapter in Philadelphia might not be closed just yet.
The cornerback wouldn’t have been surprised by the move as he recently discussed the possibility with Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. brown on the latter’s podcast.
“I might re-sign back, hopefully. If I ain’t, I gotta see what we doing because I do want to play one more year, for sure,” he said.
The player’s $13.76 million cap hit played into the Eagles’ decision, as did the fact that cornerbacks are rarely as effective in their mid-30s—and Slay is 35.
While he appeared to understand the decision, it hardly means there won’t be emotions. And his wife Jennifer confessed to crying over the development in a social media post that followed the news.
“Real tears,” she wrote.
Anyway, Darius Slay is one talented player, and I do not doubt that he’ll perform better wherever he finds himself. So here’s to Darius Slay and his future success. We’ll be rooting for you, man!
