Chart Check: Justin Timberlake’s ‘Selfish’ Enters the Hot 100 As One of the Top Debuts of His Career To Date

Despite attempts by Britney Spears fans to thwart the success narrative of Justin Timberlake‘s comeback single, ‘Selfish,’ it appears the Pop crooner may be the one having the last laugh.

‘Selfish’ – the lead single from Justin’s new album ‘Everything I Thought It Was’ (due March 15) – quietly entered Billboard’s Digital Song Sales tally last week as the highest-charting new song (#5) based off just one day of sales.

By the time the January 25-released cut enjoyed its first full sales tracking period (January 26-February 2), it still maintained a tight grip on the digital sales chart – moving up to #4. Paired with radio airplay and streaming, the sales figures garnered during the aforementioned dates pushed the Cirkut-produced cut to a #19 opening on this week’s Hot 100.

A breakdown of the numbers below.

  • Streaming: 11.5 million U.S.-based streams
  • Sales: 10,000 digital downloads
  • Radio airplay: 22.4 million audience impressions

Marking the 29th top 40 hit of his career, the #19 premiere of ‘Selfish’ comes as one of the highest solo debuts he’s made yet on the Hot 100.

In fact, his only songs to arrive higher were ‘Say Something‘ (#9 debut in 2018), ‘Filthy‘ (#9 debut in 2018), ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling!‘ (#1 in 2016), and ‘Holy Grail‘ (#8 debut in 2013).
