Monica may have once declared her and Brandy‘s legendary hit ‘The Boy is Mine‘ was “too sacred” to remake, but chart-topping Pop star Ariana Grande‘s decision to take the “inspired by” route (instead of a direct duplication) apparently got both R&B divas’ stamp of approval as they not only appeared in the tune’s music video but later lent their talents to its official remix.
And though the ‘Eternal Sunshine‘ favorite had already cracked the Billboard Hot 100’s top 20 at the time of its parent album’s release (#16 peak), it was seemingly on its way off the chart before Bran and Mo worked their magic.
See their impact inside.
After slipping to #74 on last week’s Hot 100, the refreshed edition sees Grande printed at #29 with ‘Boy’ – a feat that represents a whopping 45-spot jump.
The song rejoins its predecessor, the former chart-topper ‘We Can’t Be Friends,’ inside the hitlist’s top 40, an ascension that makes Ariana, Taylor Swift, GloRilla, and Billie Eilish the only female acts with concurrent top 40 smashes on the updated all-genre chart.
Here are the figures that powered the boost.
- Sales ≈ 3,000 digital downloads
- Radio airplay ≈ 8.3 million audience impressions
- Streams ≈ 11.4 million U.S.-based streams

And while the impressive hop is undoubtedly due in great part to the remix, Billboard did not credit the Bran and Mo mix of ‘Boy’ because that version did not outperform the original.
