As the ‘Kill Bill’ beauty continues to kill the competition on the Billboard 200, the week saw her keep Pop diva P!nk at bay – a victory that resulted in the R&B singer’s 10th non-consecutive print at #1 on the tally.
With the double-digit reign SZA (born Solana Rowe) becomes only the third Black female in the 77-year history of the album chart to enjoy as lengthy of a run at its summit with a studio album. In fact, the last time a Black woman held the top spot this long was Mariah’s 1990 self-titled debut which spent 11 consecutive weeks at #1 in 1991.
Before that, Whitney’s 1987 eponymous sophomore studio effort became the first LP by any woman to log 11 weeks at the chart’s pole position.
And though Rowe is expected to be abdicated from the Billboard 200 throne next week due to Colombian superstar Karol G‘s new album, ‘Manana Sera Bonito,’ there’s always a chance ‘SOS’ could rebound in the future.
Until we find out if she’ll tie Carey and Houston’s record, look to see who joins SZA on this week’s TGJ Chart Check: Billboard 200.
