But he doesn’t feel terrible about the sarcastic remarks Shaquille O’Neal makes about him, and he explained why his weight loss quest is so significant to him in an interview with Ernie Johnson on “Steam Room.”
Over the years, Barkley has disclosed that he has taken a number of weight-loss medications to help him return to his best health. In earlier Inside episodes, he discusses Mounjaro and how, after speaking with his physician, he has utilized it.
Chuck told Ernie that he had tried a number of different medications before deciding on Mounjaro and ZepBound. He had a straightforward explanation for his weight loss.

As he gets older, he hopes to be able to spend the enormous sums of money he has earned throughout his career on himself.
To his fellow Emmy-winning host, he disclosed: “I want to get to 270[lbs] because Dr. Andrews told me, ain’t no fat old people. If you’re fat and you’re old, you’re going to have a lot of health problems. So I don’t want that. Man, I just turned 62, and I want to be here because I got more money to spend. I don’t want to leave it for my freeloading relatives. I want to be here. So I got to spend some money.”
Even as a player, Barkley was always a little too big, but at just 6’6″, the extra muscle he gained made him a devastating power forward. But after retiring, his weight skyrocketed to 355 pounds after a couple hip replacement procedures.
He told Ernie that he had lost 315 pounds as a result of the weight loss medication.
