Cardi B Garners Mixed Reactions for Suggesting Homosexuality Can Be the Result of Sexual Assault: “Not Everybody Born Gay”

Despite identifying as bisexual and being quite vocal of her support of the LGBT+ community over the years, Cardi B has still garnered her fair share of side eyes and headlines for ruffling their feathers.

From defending homophobic lyrics by her on-and-off-again beau Offset to being accused of transphobia herself, Cardi’s used her platform to sound off against critics who have questioned her allyship.

Such was the case recently when the GRAMMY winner took to Instagram to give her thoughts on the wildly popular Netflix series ‘Baby Reindeer.’

Her commentary on the show may have rubbed some the wrong way, however, after she analyzed the “root” of some people’s sexual orientation.

A gripping psychological thriller, ‘Reindeer’ is an autobiographical miniseries created by and starring Scottish actor-comedian Richard Gadd that chronicles his real-life experience of being sexually assaulted in his 20s.

Cardi took to IG live to reveal she found the content disturbing.

“I watched this show ‘Baby Reindeer’ on Netflix and I haven’t been able to finish watching it because around the fourth or fifth episode it kind of traumatized me a little bit and it freaked me out,” she said.

Later in the live session she reflected on a scene from the series that depicted same-sex sexual assault.

“It’s so important for us to know certain male perspectives about these types of things because women go through a lot of sexual assault, but we don’t really get to hear or see what other men go through when they experience sexual assault,” she started before saying, “I believe there’s some men that are born gay. I have a cousin that I just knew since he was two years old he was gay. And there’s men that get sexually assaulted then they find out they are gay.”

The commentary undoubtedly left some scratching heads, but Cardi continued.

“Not everybody is born gay. You see in that episode, the guy, he was straight. And he got raped and he started going through these emotions of identity. He started having crazy sex with women, he started having crazy sex with men. He just wanted to identify what he likes, all because he got sexually assaulted,” she relayed.

Despite seemingly being well-intentioned, the Rap diva’s choice of words definitely left some of her live session viewers feeling a way.

As of time reported, she’s not directly addressed some of their critical responses.
