Brian Schottenheimer Is the New Head Coach of the Cowboys

A major shift in the franchise’s leadership has occurred with the Dallas Cowboys’ unexpected announcement that Brian Schottenheimer will take over as head coach. After serving as the Cowboys‘ offensive coordinator for the previous two seasons, Schottenheimer has been elevated to the position of head coach and has formally signed a contract that will make him the team’s tenth head coach in its storied history.

Following the Cowboys’ disastrous 7–10 season, marred by injuries and poor play, Schottenheimer was promoted. But one of Schottenheimer’s main advantages in his move to head coach is his knowledge with the team’s offense and the players’ strengths.

This decision is especially unexpected because the senior coach had never served as head coach at any NFL level.

There are rumors that former Cowboys tight end Jason Witten may join Schottenheimer’s staff in addition to his appointment. Longtime Pro Bowler Witten is a beloved figure in Dallas, having played for the Cowboys for 16 of his 17 NFL seasons. As the team attempts to recover from a difficult season, his possible inclusion in Schottenheimer’s coaching staff might provide continuity and expertise.

Schottenheimer’s ascent to the position of head coach is the result of years of expertise in a variety of coaching capacities.
