Following allegations of abuse by a woman known as Tia Jones, Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy is not currently facing criminal charges; nonetheless, a Texas judge has rendered a significant ruling in favor of the accuser.
A protection order was issued to Jones on March 12, which added a significant new dimension to the continuing inquiry, even if the Williamson County District Attorney’s Office has chosen not to press charges at this time.
Worthy was detained in custody prior to his release after being arrested in Texas on March 7 on charges of assaulting a family member or household member.
Although the issue is still being investigated, District Attorney Shawn Dick said his staff spoke with Jones before deciding not to press charges at this time.
As the case progresses, Xavier Worthy’s accuser speaks through the legal team
According to her attorneys, Tia Jones is fully cooperating with police as the investigation progresses. Jones’s legal team stated in a statement obtained by The Associated Press that although no criminal charges have been brought against her, they are still dedicated to pursuing justice for her.
Angelica Cogliano, one of the lawyers for Jones, stated: “Ms. Jones has chosen to use her voice to speak up for herself,”
“In doing so, she looks forward to the facts and circumstances of that night coming to light through the formal legal process, and getting the justice that she deserves.”
The issuance of a protective order indicates that the court identified adequate reasons for implementing preventative measures in favor of Jones, highlighting that, although Worthy has not faced charges, the judicial system is treating the allegations with seriousness.
In the meantime, Worthy’s legal representatives have categorically denied all claims, releasing a statement proclaiming his innocence. They assert that the situation arose when Worthy asked Jones to leave his residence after uncovering her supposed infidelity.
The statement says: “Upon discovery of her infidelity, [she] refused to vacate the residence and made a number of extortive efforts prior to resorting to this baseless allegation against Mr. Worthy,”
The Kansas City Chiefs, informed of Worthy’s arrest, responded to the situation with a succinct statement: “We are aware of the situation and still gathering information.”
This incident has cast a pall over Worthy’s promising NFL career, especially as the young wide receiver recently completed a successful rookie season.
