Things are heating up in ‘The Chi’ as the season 7 teaser trailer hints at high-stakes drama.

Season 7 will pick up from the reeling Season 6 finale with the shocking deaths of Douda (Curtis Cook) and Rob (Iman Shumpert). Both were gunned down by Douda’s enforcer, Nuck.

Rob’s body was left on his mother Alicia (Lynn Whitfield)’s doorstep, who grieves for her son, but steps into power with Douda gone.

This season, the women are taking the lead. Alicia, Tracy (Tai Davis), and Jada (Yolonda Ross) step into the spotlight, with new alliances forming, loyalties tested, and fighting for control, and only one can wear the crown.

Returning cast includes Jacob Latimore, Shamon Brown Jr., Michael V. Epps, Birgundi Baker, Luke James, and Yolonda Ross. This includes Whitfield, who is now a series regular.

Kadeem Hardison, Brett Gray, Rotimi, Jackie Long, Jill Marie Jones, Jason Weaver, La La Anthony, Vic Mensa, and Kandi Burruss return as guest stars.

The fresh and new faces have just as much star power, such as Phylicia Rashad, Wendy Raquel Robinson, and Karrueche Tran.

Season 6 was the most-watched season, climbing nearly 25% over the previous season. Showtime has already greenlit a Season 8 writers’ room.

The series is getting closer to historic status because an eighth season would tie it with ‘Dexter,’ ‘Weeds,’ and ‘Homeland’ as Showtime’s second-longest running series. Only ‘Shameless’ ran longer than these series.

‘The Chi’ premieres May 16 on Paramount+ with Showtime, and May 18 on Showtime.
