The popular social media platform was shut down in the early hours of this morning (January 19) after the much-discussed “TikTok Ban” came into effect.

As reported, the US Supreme Court upheld its ruling that its closing was mandatory after a buyer for the US side of the China-owned business could not be established.

Now, less than 24 hours later, TikTok is being restored to its 170 million+ US users and to app stores Stateside.

The move comes as President-Elect Donald Trump promised to assist with remedying the issue. Both in the short term (by way of an extended grace period) and in the long term (by way of a vow to bring about a permanent resolve.

A statement from the platform confirmed the restoration and thanked Trump. It read:

“In agreement with our service providers, TikTok is in the process of restoring service. We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurance to our service providers that they will face no penalties providing TikTok to over 170 million Americans and allowing over 7 million small businesses to thrive. It’s a strong stand for the First Amendment and against arbitrary censorship. We will work with President Trump on a long-term solution that keeps TikTok in the United States.”
