All indications are that LeBron James will remain in Los Angeles, even if he may be able to explore the possibilities of free agency this summer. Despite having a player option for the 2025–2026 season, the four-time NBA champion and all-time top scorer is unlikely to leave the Lakers, according to insiders.
On the court and in his personal life, LeBron continues to have a strong devotion to the Lakers, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst. During an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show, Windhorst stated, “Being a Laker and living in Los Angeles are his top priorities.” James’ devotion to the squad appears to be unaffected, even though Luka Doncic may now be the team’s main focus.
LeBron James and his dream to play with Bronny keeps him up
The 40-year-old superstar looks destined to stay in Los Angeles, where his son Bronny James is also anticipated to start his NBA career, unless the Lakers provide him a reason to change his mind, which Windhorst described as extremely unlikely.
The future of the Lakers’ roster may play a significant role in LeBron’s choice. The stars are aligning for a family affair in Los Angeles, with 26-year-old Luka Doncic set to lead the team’s new era and Bronny James perhaps joining the roster.
LeBron has previously stated that it would be an absolute dream to play with his son. Given that chance and the Lakers’ changing core, he has little incentive to look at other teams.
LeBron continues to be one of the league’s most productive players as he gets closer to turning 41 in December. He averaged 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists in 70 games during the 2024–25 regular season. In spite of a postseason knee injury, he played well in the Lakers’ series defeat to the Timberwolves in the first round, averaging 25.4 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game.
Although James has left a lasting legacy, he is still adding chapters to it. And if the most recent rumors are to be believed, the next one will be written in Los Angeles.
