According to ESPN, Nick Chubb, a four-time Pro Bowl running back, is anticipated to sign a one-year contract with the Houston Texans on Monday.
Chubb must pass a physical before the signing can take place. The Texans’ rushing attack, which is anchored by two-time Pro Bowl rusher Joe Mixon, Dameon Pierce, Dare Ogunbowale, and fourth-round pick Woody Marks from USC, would include the former Cleveland Browns running back.
After spending the first seven years of his career in Cleveland, Chubb, a 2018 second-round selection out of Georgia, is currently ranked third on the Browns’ career running tally (6,843). Chubb’s time with the Browns was cut short by injuries.
After missing the first six games of the 2024 season due to a season-ending knee injury sustained against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 2 of 2023, he made a comeback in Week 7 and scored a touchdown against the Cincinnati Bengals.
However, a broken foot in Week 15 prevented Chubb, 29, from returning to his Pro Bowl form before his season ended too soon. In eight games, he ran for 332 yards and had career lows for both the percentage of rushes that gained at least 10 yards (4.9%) and yards per attempt (3.3).
Houston is hoping Chubb can return to his pre-injury level of play and work as a one-two with Mixon, who finished with 1,016 running yards and 11 touchdowns to earn a 2024 Pro Bowl berth.
NFL Network was the first to report about Chubb’s anticipated signing in Houston.
