The tennis icon took to Instagram to reflect on her surprise appearance during Kendrick Lamar‘s Super Bowl Halftime Show performance, sharing how the collaboration came to be and how she Crip Walked for the world to see.
She explained in the caption:
“When @kendricklamar and team called and was like ‘we’ve been trying to do something forever, what about this? We loved your crip walk at the Olympics after you won the gold medal’.”
For those who may not know the context behind the iconic Crip Walk moment, Serena Crip Walked at the London Olympics in 2012 after winning against Maria Sharapova. She was criticized for doing the dance due to its argued link with gang culture. Shrugging off the critique, she made the masses move all over again a decade and some change later.
And Serena, ever the GOAT, couldn’t pass up the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity:
“When in the world would I ever be able to dance at a Super Bowl? (Never) let’s do it!”
From Grand Slams to grand stages, Serena (who famously dated Lamar’s rival Drake) stays winning. And as she perfectly put it in her video the moment was:
“The best 15 seconds of my life!”
