In what comes as a big surprise to no one,’ ‘Wicked‘ is not only making history at the movie box office but also on the music charts!

As an EMMY, GRAMMY, and TONY Award-winning actor-singer, Cynthia Erivo has seen her immense talent touch almost every corner of the entertainment industry.

Yet, despite rendering her debut studio album – 2021’s ‘Ch. 1 Vs 1′ – as well as critically acclaimed contributions to soundtracks over the years, the multi-hyphenate diva has never charted on the Hot 100.

That is, until this week thanks to the wicked success of her latest screen and soundtrack endeavors.

As leading lady of the screen adaptation of the beloved musical, Cynthia was tasked with delivering an updated take on the soundtrack’s standout song – ‘Defying Gravity.’ And, deliver she did.

So much so, her version of the award-winning tune premiered at #3 on the new Digital Song Sales chart – the highest rung reached by any first-time charting song this week.

Accompanied by handsome streams of approximately 11.9 million over the same tracking period, the sales plus streaming combo helped ‘Gravity’ soar to the #44 spot on the refreshed Hot 100 – making it the highest spot Erivo’s reached in her storied career to date.

Other ‘Wicked’ tunes that premiered include ‘What Is This Feeling?’ (#68), ‘Dancing Through Life’ (#90), ‘The Wizard and I’ (#93), and ‘I’m Not That Girl‘ (#94).
