Something dramatic happened at the Super Bowl halftime show! So Kendrick Lamar was up there, killing it with his performance when a random protester stormed onto the field out of nowhere. And get this, he pulled out Palestinian and Sudanese flags like there’s no tomorrow and started waving them.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for expressing your opinion and standing up for what you believe in, but crashing the Super Bowl halftime performance? That’s on a whole different level!
The atmosphere went from hype to confusion quickly. People were just trying to enjoy the music and the game, you know? But this protester had other plans. But thanks to the security, he was tackled to the ground.
The moment went down toward the end of K. Dot‘s performance … as he was doing his rendition of “tv off” — the last song on the setlist.
In video of the stunt, what appears to be a performer wearing all black broke script … pulling out the flag and putting it on full display as they stood on top of the same vehicle Kendrick started his show on.
The apparent rogue performer moved around the stage and on the field for several seconds … but ultimately got a mouth full of turf as soon as security caught up to them.
It’s unclear if the person was actually part of the whole gig — there were numerous dancers wearing similar clothes throughout the performance — or if they blended in with the backup and waited until the very end to pounce.
The protester’s stunt didn’t accomplish much, except maybe grabbing a few seconds of fame. But come on, there are better ways to make your voice heard and raise awareness about important issues. Let’s leave the Super Bowl halftime show for entertainers to do what they do best – entertain!
