Madonna may be gearing up to hit the road on the highly anticipated ‘Celebration Tour,’ but new reports indicate she’s pumping the brakes on the release of her long-awaited big screen biographical film.

Set to be a big year for the Pop Queen, Madge sent her fans into a frenzy earlier this month with the announcement of a greatest hits tour – news that was followed by a feature in the month’s ‘Vanity Fair’ to dish on her excitement about the forthcoming global jaunt.

“I am very excited by the challenges that are emerging in my future. I’m about to create a new show. And I have been working on the script for a film about my life for several years. It’s a good time because I gather ideas, get inspired, hang out with creative people, watch tons of movies, listen to music and I’ve become a social anthropologist. I look for inspiration wherever I go and wherever I can find it,” she shared (as we reported here).

For the time being, however, sources close to the singer’s biopic indicate she’ll have to keep ‘gathering ideas’ because production has halted at Universal Pictures.  Announced in 2020, the big screen project was set to be toplined by Julia Garner in the leading role.

While reps for Madonna, Garner, and Universal Pictures have yet to release an official statement on the scrapping of the film, insiders say Madge is still committed to making a movie about her life one day.  The tour is the main focus now, however, and understandably so given calls for the trek.

Billboard reported a whopping 600,000 tickets were purchased in a matter of hours after going on presale, leading to shows being added in Los Angeles, Montreal, Boston, and beyond to meet the demand.

“In total, 51 shows went on sale [January 20], with 35 of the shows completely sold out by 5 p.m. EST. Fogel and Madonna’s team added a fourth New York show after the first three sold out in 15 minutes and two additional London shows after the first two concerts at the 02 Arena sold out in 20 minutes. Tickets to see Madonna’s Paris shows sold out in under seven minutes, while her Amsterdam date sold out in 10 minutes.”

The general ticket sales for the ‘Celebration Tour’ start January 27, with the outing itself kicking off July 15 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver.
