Jennifer Lopez may have made headlines in the past for using her vocal chops to tackle one of Whitney Houston‘s most celebrated numbers, ‘Saving All My Love For You’ (as reported here), but that doesn’t mean she will be rendering other live renditions of the Pop icon’s challenging hits any time soon.
The tweet above has been the source of headlines and criticism all week after a poster alleged Lopez took to ‘TIME’ magazine to announce she would be performing a tribute to Houston at next year’s GRAMMYs.
“I feel that Whitney’s songs fit my vocal range very well. I’m going to sing ‘I Have Nothing’ and ‘I Will Always Love You,'” the poster purported.
By Friday (December 2) the post had gone viral and ignited debates galore on social media after being shared thousands of times. This after alleged audio of Lopez’s rehearsals leaked to the net.

The hoopla landed on the desk of Lopez, who spoke out via a rep and denied the claims.
“There is no truth to this rumor and that interview did not happen,” Lauren Schwartz, a spokesperson for Jennifer, said before sharing that the actor-singer’s team is “looking into” the origin of the audio clip “but either way it is not related to any Grammy performance.”
To further corroborate the rep’s statement, the Associated Press (AP) performed an independent fact-check and found no reference of such an interview on TIME’s site or archives. The mag later confirmed to AP there is no such statement from the ‘On the Floor’ singer.
Longtime fans of Lopez, affectionately called #JLovers, know this isn’t the first time she’s ruffled feathers for her reported involvement with a GRAMMY tribute.
In early 2019, Motown fans called for a boycott of the year’s biggest night in music because it was announced J.Lo would lead the charge with a performance of the legendary label’s greatest hits. Click here to read more about that.
