The super fan is charged with obtaining funds without intending to render any services. According to Atlanta News First, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis indicted Carolyn Freeman, the Atlanta Falcons superfan known as “BirdLady,” this week.

After allegedly stealing $14,155 from Kansas City Chiefs supporters for a tailgate event that never happened, Freeman, 65, is charged with “theft by deception.”

The arrest warrant dated October 30, 2024, states that Freeman raised approximately $300 from fans to plan a party for the Sept. 22 Kansas City Chiefs vs. Atlanta Falcons game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Supporters think Freeman had no intention of performing the service.

Falcons “Birdlady” denies all allegations

Following an increase in internet complaints, the BirdLady was the subject of an investigation. Her arrest at the Falcons vs. Dallas Cowboys game on November 3, 2024, led to the indictment.

Freeman had garnered the trust of many fans throughout the country after being named a 2016 Bud Light NFL Super Fan. But the accusations have sparked questions about her intentions. According to the Birdlady, she did go to the tailgate gathering, but she was late because of a detour. By the time she got there, everyone had gone.

Freeman refuted the theft claims after being arrested. She insisted that the event’s transactions never involved her non-profit, BirdLady Cares LLC.

Conversely, Freeman claims that BirdLady LLC, a (501)(c)(3) non-profit, did not get the agreed-upon donation of event revenues.
