Edie Falco, the three-time Emmy winner and actress from The Sopranos, called Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers “mean” for a hard foul against Jalen Brunson during their game against the New York Knicks.
The 61-year-old Falco won two Golden Globes for her role as Carmela Soprano in the popular drama TV series about the Italian-American mafia in the New Jersey and New York vicinity.
When she traveled to Madison Square Garden for the NBA Playoffs in May 2024 to watch the 76ers play the Knicks in the First Round, she traded in her acting career for a night at the basketball court.
The night was marred by a foul call by Embiid on Brunson, who smacked the Mets’ number 11 to prevent him from making a two-point shot, which infuriated Falco despite an exciting 112-106 victory that saw the 76ers maintain their aspirations.
Regarding Embiid, Falco told: “He’s mean,”
“He elbowed you in a game last year, and I was going to go after him.
“I mean, that’s how bad it was. And then, I think I’ve seen you guys play since then, and you guys are all cool with each other. I’m like, ‘You don’t hold a grudge?'”
