When it comes to the current NBA, Giannis Antetokounmpo has been an exception. Giannis has been a tribute to basketball from the 1990s in a time when three-point shooters and “floor spacers” predominate. A muscular specimen, his strength almost supernatural, controlling the paint. Despite not having a scoring title, he has been so dominant that he is at the top of a list that includes some of the best scorers in the past ten years.

Look at the Greek Freak’s stats to see how scoring comes effortlessly to him. LeBron James (17,271), James Harden (18,801), Stephen Curry (16,672), and Giannis (18,983) have all scored fewer points than Giannis since 2015.

He has occasionally led Milwaukee into the postseason and beyond on his own. Fans were ecstatic to see the stat that verified he was the league’s highest scorer, so it should come as no surprise.

But Giannis couldn’t help but minimize how amazing the figure was when he headed to X (previously Twitter) to reply to a fan who shared the image with the message, “Holy sh*t.”

The 30-year-old’s statement, “Not a scorer, just a basketball player,” made it apparent what his mentality is.

Giannis believes that succeeding as a team and pursuing championships are more important than individual honors like winning crowns.

As a two-time MVP and 2020 Defensive Player of the Year, he has demonstrated his worth on both ends of the court, which may have contributed to his initial success.

Being the top player and adding stats to an otherwise lackluster squad may be the reason he no longer wants to remain in Milwaukee. The Bucks were fifth in the Eastern Conference during the 2024–25 season, but they were humiliatingly eliminated in five games by the Indiana Pacers in the opening round.
