On Wednesday morning, Colorado’s head coach, Deion Sanders, took to social media to acknowledge those who wished him a swift recovery from a recent health concern.
In a message posted on X, Sanders did not specify the issue that has kept him out of Boulder for the past few weeks, but he provided an encouraging update.
Sanders stated: “Wow, I am truly blessed for the abundance of well wishes, for all the thoughts and all of the prayers. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!”
“I can assure you all that everything is OKAY and will continue to be so. God got me like no other. I have so much more work to do to Glorify God so please believe God got me! I’m excited to get back to Colorado to be at home with my staff, team & all associated to our program. When we arrive back to Boulder you will be updated on everything. Until then, I’M COMING BABY, #CoachPrime”
Deion Sanders and his recent health struggles
As he enters his third year as the head coach of the Buffaloes, Sanders has been staying at his residence in Canton, Texas, for the last few weeks, and it remains uncertain when he will return to Boulder to join the team.
At 57 years old, Sanders has faced health struggles in recent years, dating back to his time as the head coach at Jackson State in 2021. He underwent multiple surgeries that fall, including the amputation of two toes on his left foot.
When he was hired at CU in December 2022, Sanders was seen walking with a limp and had not been able to run since his surgeries in 2021. However, during the summer of 2023, leading up to his inaugural season at CU, he underwent two surgeries to address blood clots. He missed the Pac-12 football media day that summer, but those medical procedures improved his mobility, and he has been able to run since then.
It is not known if his current health issues are connected to his previous blood clot complications.
The first instance this year where Sanders publicly mentioned any health issue was on May 30 while he was a guest on a podcast featuring former NFL star Asante Samuel.
