Coach Pete Carroll gave rookie running back Ashton Jeanty a lot of praise during the last day of the Las Vegas Raiders‘ required minicamp. Jeanty has been all the organization has hoped for so far.

Carroll stated on Thursday: “He caught the ball well, understood stuff, took everything seriously [and] gave terrific effort throughout,”. “We made a big deal of him — ‘Everybody’s watching you’ — and he embraced the thought of it. And so, it’s going to be exciting to see what happens.”

“This is what I’ve done with rookies for a long time,”. “It just depends on how well you orchestrate what you ask them to do. And if they can find success, that helps our depth and helps us stay competitive.”

Ashton Jeanty looks like the next big thing

In the hopes that the Heisman Trophy runner-up would strengthen the league’s weakest rushing assault from the previous campaign, Las Vegas selected Jeanty with the sixth pick in the April draft.

Jeanty has performed admirably in adjusting to offensive coordinator Chip Kelly’s plan since organized team activity workouts began in May. Out of all the running backs on the roster, Jeanty has accumulated the most first-team experience.

Carroll clarified the significance of Jeanty and other rookies, such as cornerback Darien Porter and wide receiver Dont’e Thornton Jr., gaining experience so they are prepared to play early.

It’s appropriate to hold off on making a decision until the pads are on. However, several aspects of Jeanty’s cuts, contact balance, and playbook knowledge have the Raiders optimistic that they have found their gem in the 21-year-old.
