Chart Check [Hot 100]: Lady Gaga Joins Michael Jackson & Janet Jackson As the ONLY Artists with MULTIPLE #1 Hits Across THREE Distinct Decades Thanks to ‘Die with a Smile’

Before the first full week of 2025, only two artists could boast having MULTIPLE Hot 100 #1 hits across three different decades: Pop’s royal siblings Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson.

On Monday (January 6), Billboard revealed a new name had been added to that exclusive tally.

After being held at bay by Shaboozey and the Christmas songs’ domination of the Hot 100, ‘Die with a Smile‘ – the megahit duet from Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars – finally ascended to the chart’s throne this week.

A record-breaking capture for Mars among acts this century, the triumph was even bigger for Gaga on the all-time history logs as she’s now the first artist to debut this century to own multiple #1 hits across three different decades.

King of Pop Michael Jackson became the first act to accomplish the feat 30 years ago after garnering multiple chart-toppers in the 70’s (‘Ben’ and ‘Don’t Stop Til’ You Get Enough’), 80’s (‘Beat It,’ ‘Billie Jean,’ and more), and 90’s (‘Black Or White’ and ‘You Are Not Alone’).

Janet followed with 80’s smashes (‘When I Think Of You,’ ‘Miss U Much,’ and more), 90’s (‘Together Again,’ ‘That’s the Way Love Goes,’ and more), and 2000’s (‘All for You’ and ‘Doesn’t Really Matter’).
