As if a record-breaking opening at the movie box office wasn’t enough, ‘Wicked‘ also took over the Billboard charts to historic fashion.

Beyond charting a whopping 7 songs from the film’s soundtrack on the updated Hot 100 (with the leader being Cynthia Erivo‘s soaring take on ‘Defying Gravity‘), the soundtrack itself soared to the top of multiple album charts.

First-Week Sales (SPS): 139,000

First-Week Sales (Pure): 85,000

Billboard 200 Debut: #2

Thanks to total first-week sales of 139,000, the biggest debut for a big-screen adaptation of a stage musical in the history of Billboard, the witchy soundtrack soared to #2 on the week’s Billboard 200 (#1 on Top Album and Top Vinyl Sales charts).

The record-setting feats don’t stop there, folks.

Of that sum, 37% was generated by 67.66 million streams – the biggest streaming week for any soundtrack ever.

As if that’s not enough, the total sales figure was comprised of 85,000 pure sales – the highest of any project released over the last commercial tracking period.

In fact, when all of the pure sales of the other 9 projects that make up this week’s top 10 are combined (approximately 83,000), they still pale in sales when compared to Erivo and Ariana Grande‘s ‘Wicked’ soundtrack.
