Before 2024, Whitney Houston – with her 1987 eponymous album – reigned in Billboard 200 history books as the only woman to have an album boast an 11-week run atop the all-genre chart after debuting in its pole position.
This week, thanks to the ongoing success of Taylor Swift‘s latest blockbuster album ‘Tortured Poets Department,’ that record’s been matched.
In its 11th week of charting, Swift’s ‘Tortured’ blocked big names like Megan Thee Stallion and Camila Cabello from capturing the Billboard 200’s throne.
Here are the numbers that powered its latest stay atop the tally.
- Sales (SPS) = 114,000
- Sales (Pure) = 36,000
The continued grip on the #1 spot came with quite a few nods this week.
Beyond becoming the first female-led album since Houston’s ‘The Bodyguard‘ to spend 11 consecutive weeks at #1 (the soundtrack spent 13), ‘Poets’ penciled its name beside Whitney’s sophomore LP ‘Whitney‘ for becoming only the second female studio album in history to debut at #1 and hold on to the position for an unbroken 11 weeks.
What’s more, the latest print on the Billboard 200 marks Taylor’s 80th career week at #1 – extending her overall record among solo acts.
With little competition on next week’s all-genre chart, Swift is expected to break Whitney’s record.
