The fact that Patrick Mahomes is vying for Tom Brady’s GOAT title is no secret. Although there is ongoing debate over whether he will become the next Brady, Cam Newton believes he has already solidified his status as the NFL’s Michael Jordan.
Having won his sixth Super Bowl in just eight seasons, Mahomes is quickly moving into G.O.A.T. territory.
Cam Newton heaps praise on Patrick Mahomes
On the most recent episode of 4th and 1 With Cam Newton, Newton was asked if he believed that Mahomes was the Jordan of the league. Newton responded with a firm and emphatic “Yes!”
“I may lie, you may lie, them numbers ain’t gonna lie. When you really put it into perspective, what Patrick Mahomes has done and is doing…ike, he is really shifting what we even know is possible.”
Newton believes that Mahomes is becoming as good as NBA great Michael Jordan, as well as players like “Joe Montana, Steve Young, Bradshaw, Troy Aikman, and Brady.”
“Every year Patrick Mahomes has been a starting quarterback, he’s only seen AFC Championships… You gotta really say this is a once-in-a-lifetime type of career. At this rate, this is a Bill Russell record.”
Both Mahomes and Brady earned three Super Bowl rings over their first seven seasons as starters. Brady has won four AFC Championships, while Mahomes has claimed five. In addition, Mahomes has now expanded his postseason record to 17-3, whereas Brady’s was 14-3. That’s enough to put a stop to the discussion for Newton.
Mahomes has already amassed 32,068 throwing yards and 245 passing touchdowns in his seven years as a starter. He currently ranks 30th in NFL history in terms of passing touchdowns and 48th in terms of passing yards.
