Rob Gronkowski Ends the Patrick Mahomes GOAT Debate

Doesn’t Patrick Mahomes keep working hard? Despite losing Tyreek Hill before the 2022 season, he had an MVP season. He won his third Super Bowl despite losing his offensive coordinator before the 2023 season.

He is currently on the verge of the first-ever Super Bowl three-peat and far ahead of the competition in almost every statistical category for quarterbacks through their age-29 season. However, some claim that he has yet to join Tom Brady in the GOAT conversation.

And by some, we mean Rob Gronkowski, Brady’s former teammate from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots.

Rob Gronkowski gets honest on Tom Brady-Patrick Mahomes GOAT debate

During a guest appearance on The Tonight Show, Gronkowski discussed the controversy. He admitted his own Brady bias as well as the fact that Mahomes is currently the best player in the league.

“Patrick Mahomes is definitely the greatest player in the NFL currently playing right now. But in order to get into the GOAT talk as the greatest of all-time, I’m gonna be a little biased, because I played with Tom Brady and I think he’s the greatest player of all-time. And he’s proven that he is the greatest player of all-time.”

It’s obvious that Gronkowski is not the only one who is adamant about Brady’s status in the GOAT argument. Although he still has a ways to go, Mahomes is undoubtedly catching up to Brady. In his opinion, even a three-peat wouldn’t force Mahomes to enter the debate, and he provided some strong evidence to support his assertions.

“First off, he’s got to win this Super Bowl coming up and get the three-peat, and I believe that’s probably one of the best dynasties in the last decade. But we had the dynasty for two decades, but for having just one decade of a dynasty, that’s the best dynasty for one decade I would say, if they win the three-peat. (Laughs) But, is he better than Tom Brady? Tom Brady beat him two times in the playoffs and is undefeated versus him. We beat him in the AFC Championship Game and the Super Bowl.”

But when it comes to head-to-head matches, things are more complicated than they appear. In Super Bowl 55, Brady undoubtedly outperformed Mahomes, but their first meeting in 2018 was different.
