When the Los Angeles Lakers lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday night, LeBron James, Bronny James, and the team did not have a good night. Bronny’s tribute shoes to Dad, however, were the night’s high point despite the subpar performance.
In Game 1 of the first round of the NBA playoffs, the Timberwolves thrashed them 117-95 in Los Angeles, and LeBron played in his record 288th playoff game, although it was one he would rather to forget. The 40-year-old’s performance was significantly below his season averages, with just 19 points, five rebounds, and three assists. In contrast, his son Bronny played just three minutes and finished 0–2 from the field in his first-ever playoff game.
For Bronny, it was about his amazing sneakers, which he wore as a tribute to his father, rather than statistics. At the age of 20, Bronny, the NBA legend’s eldest son, threw it back by donning his father’s original sneaker, the “Debut” Nike Air Zoom Generations, which LeBron wore for his April 2006 playoff debut.
With a triple-double of 32 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists against the Washington Wizards on Saturday, Dad, who was just 20 at the time, did a little better than both his son and himself.
There won’t be many more sneaker-wearing nights this season unless LeBron and Bronny can recover in Game 2.
