Billboard Crowns Madonna’s ‘Into the Groove’ As Best Pop Song Of All Time…That Never Charted on the Hot 100

Queen of Pop Madonna may be reigning over headlines for her triumphant return to stage courtesy of the globe-trotting ‘Celebration Tour,’ but now the icon has even more to celebrate thanks to a recent Billboard ranking that finds her in a familiar spot: #1.

Just days after dividing online music lovers with their list of the 500 Best Pop Songs of All Time, a list that included Hot 100-charting singles only, the staff at Billboard are giving them even more reasons to argue by publishing a subset tally: the 100 Best Pop Songs that never appeared on the hitlist.

While their respective absences may have been due to a number of varying factors including lack of sales or radio airplay, chart rules at the time of popularity, and more, said factors didn’t make the songs any less great.

Leading the pack is Madonna’s 1985 ‘Desperately Seeking Susan’ soundtrack hit ‘Into the Groove.‘ A fan favorite of the legendary diva’s prized discography, ‘Groove’ failed to dance on to the Hot 100 at the height of its heat because it was only released as a B-side in the U.S.
