Bears Advised by Bomani Jones Not to Hire Ben Johnson

Bomani Jones is an example of the minority bringing attention to how the Detroit Lions dug their own coffin, while the mainstream media has chosen to concentrate on the story that Jayden Daniels beat them on their own. The veteran journalist harshly criticized the Lions’ think tank, and especially offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, for some of the gadget plays they called during the Divisional Round defeat to the Commanders on the most recent episode of The Right Time.

Jones urged all interested NFL teams not to hire Johnson as their head coach at the start of his tirade against the Lions’ offensive coordinator. Ben’s game versus the Commanders was a tactical failure in the podcast host’s opinion.

Additionally, Johnson’s choice to assign passing responsibilities to wide receiver Jameson Williams of all people was the play that most enraged Bomani. It was a part of an unconventional trick.

Bomani was shocked that Ben chose to improvise with Jamo getting the snap, even though Jared Goff was having a rough day on the field. The wide receiver, whose actions haven’t impressed anyone, even Bomani, was being asked to do much too much. As anticipated, the move backfired as Williams missed his real target, Jahmyr Gibbs, with a backfoot ball to the Commanders’ defense.

Bomani Jones blasts Ben Johnson

Johnson was irresponsible to hire the wrong man for the position, especially with the season on the line, according to Bomani, who claimed on his show that Williams has the worst decision-making abilities in the league.

“Do not hire that man to be your head coach. I see that going as a disaster… You call a pass, but it’s not for your QB to throw the pass. It’s for your receiver to throw the pass, not just any receiver, the receiver that has shown us time and time again that in a league with George Pickens, it is he who has the worst judgment in the NFL… You entrusted a receiver with your season on the line. What kinda Big Brain Bullsh*t was that?”

In all honesty, Bomani Jones’ criticisms are excessive. He and the rest of us would have been gushing about Ben Johnson’s ingenuity if the Jameson Williams risk had been successful. However, it simply wasn’t the Lions’ day.

Theoretically, it is possible to explain Ben’s actions. The OC had to think outside the box because the Commanders appeared to know all the solutions to the Lions’ plays, and time was running short.
