There’s a significant reason Angel Reese has a ton of fans. It doesn’t matter what the subject is; Reese never holds back when expressing her opinions. There’s also a tendency for her remarks to create a stir, and Friday was no exception.
Reese announced on her “Unapologetically Angel” podcast that she would boycott WNBA games if players weren’t compensated adequately after a new CBA. DiJonai Carrington, another WNBA player, stated that there is a genuine chance that a strike will occur. Unsurprisingly, this has been received with a lot of backlash.
Reese’s remarks were misconstrued by some, but many opponents still cite the WNBA’s viewership and revenue figures.
Angel Reese clarifies her comments
Some fans spread the rumor that Reese was “demanding” that WNBA players receive the same compensation as NBA players. Reese has come out to defend herself, and that was just untrue.
I love how yall have selective hearing. I said “I’m hearing if they don’t give us what we want, we sitting out” and that’s the truth. I never said anything about the NBA. We are prepared to stay at the negotiating table for as long as it takes. Here’s the link to my podcast so… https://t.co/UQ7aHtUIXi

However, Reese remained true to her first sentiment. She honestly feels WNBA players are grossly underpaid. She also objects to the fact that 2026 rookies will probably earn more than some veterans.
While Reese’s reputation as a fiery personality may not be the right representation that WNBA players might want, it’s noteworthy that she feels like a driving force in the league enough to make a demand like this. Many WNBA players will appreciate it greatly if she can spark change.
